Economic Outlook Chairmen’s Dinner
Inflexion supported 14 of its portfolio chairmen in late January by hosting an evening of debate on both the UK and global economic outlook for the year ahead.
Simon Wells, Chief UK Economist for HSBC, provided insight and controversy to fuel the discussion.
The room concluded that it expected:
- Strong growth in the UK, above 3% in 2014 and over 2% in 2015, significantly ahead of continental Europe;
- Interest rates to remain unchanged until at least Q1 2015 even if inflation starts to creep upwards;
- Uncertainty beyond 2015 caused by elections and unresolved structural debt issues throughout develop economies; so
- Firms should look to capitalise on the favourable conditions over the next two years but be prepared for slightly bumpier times beyond.
