Three Inflexion portfolio companies recognised at BVCA Vision Series

Inflexion is pleased to announce that three of its portfolio companies have been recognised for exceptional performance at The BVCA’s Vision 2023 Series. Times Higher Education (THE) picked up two awards by winning the national medium-sized company award as well as the regional category for London and the South East. Medik8 was also named for that region while Upperton won the regional category for North West, Midlands & East of England.

The BVCA’s Vision 2023 Series, produced in collaboration with Grant Thornton, recognises the best teams backed by private equity and venture capital, with judging criteria including growth, competitiveness, innovation and ESG factors over the course of 2022.

THE is the world’s leading provider of performance data, analytics, insights and consultancy to the global higher education and research community serving universities, corporates, not-for-profits and governments worldwide. THE has transformed since Inflexion’s investment in 2019 from a 37-strong team into a global £40m turnover business with over 300 staff. The business has acquired four companies in the last two years, with judges calling THE “a pioneer in [its] field”.

Medik8 is a premium skincare range which received investment from Inflexion in 2021, and its following has doubled since then on the back of its high-quality products as well as emphasising a data and insight-centric approach. Inflexion’s expertise has helped to propel the brand to global prominence, particularly targeting the US and supported multi-channel expansion. Judges deemed Medik8 “the standout winner in terms of ESG considerations, growth, and overall success in the skincare industry”.

Upperton is a Contract Development and Manufacturing organisation supporting the development and clinical manufacturing of non-sterile oral, nasal and pulmonary dosages for small to mid-sized pharmaceutical clients. The business received funding from Inflexion in 2022 to accelerate its growth. Judges commented on Upperton’s “impressive growth and innovation” and stated its new Inflexion-funded facility as providing a competitive advantage for Upperton to support their clients throughout the entire product development lifecycle.
